Arrival Day 2009

Hello everyone.

I am so pleased to report that all of our campers have arrived safe and sound and the first full day has come to a close here at camp.  It’s fantastic to have campers on site and full of great camp energy.

We had several campers arrive by car today and the vast majority came in by bus.  Leaders were on hand to scoop up all the campers and do what they do best.   After moving into cabins, setting up bunks and a hearty dinner the kids were involved with a great evening activity that involved a lot of chasing staff and getting to know the site.  I suspect for many it will be an exciting evening as the first night at camp generates lots of excitement.

Tomorrow at camp the campers will visit the doctor, have a swim test, do some paddling and have a chat with me.   In between these things the day will be jammed full with other activities.  The day will end with a camp wide game of Capture the flag, hopefully setting into motion a good sleep for all.

Also on Sunday our VII campers (we have two trips in Whitehorse) begin their 52 day journeys toward Inuvik.  An amazing trip of a life time awaits them all. Our thoughts are with them every step of the way.   On Monday our  Bay Trippers will leave camp and embark on a 26 day canoe trip on the Kessagami River, we will see them returning to camp July 22nd.

I will look forward to updating you as we move through the summer.  I hope you all have a great summer where ever you may be.

Woody, Director, Camp Wanapitei
